Sample 1: Teacher arrives and it's time for Class 6M to hand in their homework books before they settle down to their English lesson, which will introduce them to their new class reader, Mark Twain's 'The Prince And The Pauper'. Sample 2: Tom, playing with his friends when he was supposed to be begging, has been collared by his brutal father and dragged off home to their hovel in Offal Court. Tom's mother and sisters stand up for him and try to protect him, but it's no use. For John Canty, children exist only to earn him the money he needs to go out and get drunk. Sample 3: Tom has gone to Westminster Palace, hoping to catch a glimpse of royalty. Seeing Prince Edward, he's darted past the guard at the gate, only to be caught and beaten. The Prince has witnessed the scene, however, and takes pity on Tom. Taking him inside, they've got chatting, and realise how much each envies the other's life. A switch of clothing, which was just intended as a bit of fun, has drastic consequences for both. Sample 4: While the Prince, dressed as Tom, has just escaped the clutches of John Canty, class 6M turn their attention to the matter of the upcoming Royal Banquet. Tom has been very uncomfortable so far in his role as the future King of England, and they fear his very basic table manners may not cope with the ordeal. He'll also not be used to the rich foods on offer ..... Sample 5: Wandering the mean streets in despair, the Prince has almost given up hope of convincing people of his true identity. In the cold of the night he takes comfort around a fire with a group of filthy tramps. One of them has unexpectedly returned from the Palace, having been pardoned by what he thought was Prince Edward, but was really Tom Canty in his new role. The tramps have no love of royalty, and they tell it like it is ..... to the discomfort of their regal guest. For samples, simply click on the links to the right.
